The Jalen Brunson Law and Order SVU debut aired Thursday night, and Knicks fans are quoting one line already. Brunson played Detective Jay Madison in Season 28’s “Forsaken” on NBC, and when Olivia Benson congratulated him on a promotion, he replied, “Focused on my goals, gave it 110%, things worked out.” His father, Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson, also slipped into the scene.

What Happened in Jalen Brunson’s SVU Debut?
He helped Benson with a case. She tracks him down at a restaurant to ask about a sealed record and a DWI arrest that went wrong, NBC Insider explains. Brunson’s Madison shares what he knows, and the scene gives the squad a break.
The Big Lead notes that Benson finds him eating a whole pizza alone. That small detail made the scene feel casual, and Brunson delivered his lines with the show’s usual calm rhythm.
What Does the “Gave It 110%” Line Mean?
It winks at the Knicks. TODAY called it “a playful reference” to the team’s recent championship run, and the phrase sounds like a postgame answer. Because the line works inside the scene too, viewers who skip basketball still hear a normal promotion reply.
Still, the episode never mentions the title directly. That restraint helps the joke, since fans catch it and everyone else hears an ordinary line.
Did Rick Brunson Appear in the Episode?
Yes, for a few seconds. Rick Brunson walks into the restaurant ahead of Hargitay and does not speak, according to Yahoo Sports. Yahoo adds that father and son won a title together and now share a TV scene. As a result, the cameo became the episode’s second talking point.
Why Did Jalen Brunson Appear on SVU?
Because of Hargitay. She is a loud Knicks fan, and she visited TODAY over the summer and said, “Don’t tell anyone, but… see Brunson on ‘SVU,’” as TODAY reported. Wikipedia says she teased the guest spot in August.
Brunson is also a longtime viewer. So the casting feels like a payoff to a running joke between two New York favorites, not a routine celebrity cameo.
Is Jalen Brunson Becoming an Actor?
Probably not. Yahoo Sports joked that he “probably shouldn’t quit his current job,” and it pointed to his Emmys cameo and Saturday Night Live appearance. In other words, the SVU role is one more fun NBC crossover during a very busy year.
What Is Confirmed and What Is Not?
Confirmed: the episode, the character, the quote and Rick Brunson’s cameo. Not confirmed: any plan for Brunson to return to the show. Neither NBC nor his team has said anything about a second appearance.
